It's been a while since we have featured an artist here on the site. Not because there is a shortage of them, but because not all of them are accessible. But, there was one that I had to get on the site. You know an artist is extremely talented when multiple people put their works as their profile pictures on Facebook. As I was going through people's profiles, I kept seeing these captivating pieces of art. When I finally found the name of the artist and I had to reach out to the him. Visually, his paintings are very much in the same vein of Ernie Barnes, paintings that capture the mannerisms and depict everyday life of the black experience. Wait until you get a peak at painter and illustrator, Frank Morrison.

Born in Massachusetts, and raised in New Jersey, Frank Morrison grew up in the midst of the hip-hop culture: DJ's, break-dancing and tagging. In fact, as a dancer, Morrison toured with the Sugar Hill Gang, performed at the world famed Apollo Theater and even toured in Europe. While in Paris, Morrison visited a museum and fell in love with the paintings. When he came back to the states, he began refining his skills and as a painter. Morrison had found his passion, his muse and his calling. His paintings have been featured on television shows including, Malcolm and Eddie and New York Undercover. He has even been commissioned by radio host, Tom Joyner.

Needless to say, Frank Morrison is a very accomplished artist. He continues to draw inspiration from everyday life, family and his faith. He tags every painting he does with "TTG" which means, Thanks To God. Morrison has been a true representation of the urban culture. So it's only right that we at The Urban Advocate salute this genius.
