Toward the end of 2010, I attended a Peanut Butter Drive organized by my people, People's Lunch Counter.  The night was dedicated to comedians and poets putting on a show in an effort to raise peanut butter for underprivileged youth. While I was there getting a little video footage, one of the comedians completely captivated the audience.  If you were in his line-of-sight that night, chances are, he gave you the business.  When he referred to me as a Heavy-D look-alike, I couldn't even take it personal...it was actually kind of funny.  Even though I admired his ability to be funny on the spot, at that point, I wasn't aware this wasn't going to be the last time I saw his face or the last time I would hear his name.  If you've been on the scene in the Dallas area in 2011, I'm sure you've heard the name as well.  If not, allow me to be the first to introduce you to the comedian "Q".

Q a.k.a. Quenton Coleman, was born and raised in the notoriously famous Southside Chicago, IL. Though the environment may have been tough, Q discovered he had a knack for words.  For about 10 years, Q has been developing a presence on-stage that allows him to juggle being a poet, a stand-up comedian and an event host.  As a comedian, he has graced the stage and worked with such names as Joe Claire, Ricky Smiley and Jay Anthony Brown. If all that wasn't enough, Q has appeared on "Who Got Jokes" and has also released a DVD entitled "Cut'n it up Dallas".  While Q continues to build upon his impressive resume as a comedian, he commands the attention of whatever audience he's in front of, as a host. Q has become a staple for events at Heroes in Dallas such as "Top Notch Thursdays", an open mic night that includes a live band, poets and comedians. That doesn't stop Q from being a presence on a number of radio shows featured at the Fishbowl Radio Network. Not to mention, he's the new host of an event that us here at THEURBANADVOCATE.COM are no stranger to, PlayDate Dallas.  This summer, on June 16th, he will also be one of the headliners at the comedy show, "We Got Next" taking place at Heroes on Greenville.  Q has an incredible work ethic that puts him in the category with some of the greatest and makes him one of the brightest shinning stars in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

As long as Q has been on my radar, he has yet to fall off of the screen. In a business where people are here today and gone tomorrow, Q has been able to fly above the competition and is seemingly knocking at the doors of destiny.  He has proven over the past two years that he is worthy of all the recognition that he's been getting around the city.  That man is buzzing and his name is ringing a few bells.  Not only does Q have jokes, but from what I can see, Q got next!
