The Almighty Poet

This is such a small world we live in!  A couple of years ago, I was kicking it a partner of mine who is a producer.  My partner was telling me he had run into an artist while he was shopping at a record store.  This artist was not only a rapper, but he was also a poet and spoken word artist.  He popped in this disc, a mixtape featuring the rapper and some of his cronies; I was really impressed.  This associate of mine submitted a track to the rapper (a track I actually wanted for myself, but oh well).  Some time went by, The Urban Advocate was born, and this artist kind of stuck in the back of my mind.  One day I was taking a comrade of mine to get something to eat and I was bumping a CD full of instrumentals.  When he hopped back in the car and heard the beat that was blasting out of the stereo, he froze.  He asks me, “Where did you get that?”  I told him I knew the cat he produced it and he tells me he knows the artists who’s doing the song to it.  I’m like. “What?!  You know Rage Almighty?”  This dude tells me they roll together.  Like I said…it’s a small world we live in.  When I finally got a chance to speak with the brother I had to get him on The Urban Advocate.  So here he is; Rage Almighty a.k.a. Rage The Poet.

Rage Almighty was born Adam Tench in Boston, Massachusetts.  By the time he reached the age of 11, Rage had already caught the entertainment bug, participating in numerous school plays.  When Rage was 13 years of age, his family moved away from B-Town and found a new home in North Dallas.  Under the tutelage of his older sister, Rage began focusing his attention on honing his penmanship and started writing poetry.  As he embarked on a mission to grow as a poet, he became known around school for his poetry, and after receiving a fake I.D., various clubs and open mic nights in the area.  Rage continued to perform in plays, talent shows and eventually commenced in building a good reputation in the underground poetry scene.  As a young poet and hip-hop head, rap music was a natural progression.  Pulling from influences such as Outkast, Common, The Roots, and Nas, Rage was able to establish a buzz as a noteworthy lyricist as well.

Rage Almighty has a style of rap that is his own, one that he hails as “Cosmic Soul”.  He is able to fluently blend rap, soul and spoken word; something that easily sets him aside from other acts emerging out of the south.  Rage unique blend of music coupled with the experiences gained from a bi-coastal up-bringing has made Rage Almighty a standout star on multiple mixtapes.  But don’t let his intellectual, poetic style deceive you; Rage makes music to fit every aspect of life, from the clubs to the streets.  Rage shows little to no effort whether he is flowing about love, oppression, having a good time or the hardships of everyday life.  His distinctive approach is the reason why mixtape DJs continue to reach out to the B-Town MC.  Rage has appeared on mixtapes from DJ P-Nut, RPM, and D-Real.  Rage has also released some mixtapes of his own including 2006’s “Neo-Soul iz Dead” and his 2007 follow-up “Soul Survivor” hosted by Def Poet and MTV2 personality Amanda Diva.  In 2008, Rage released his debut effort entitled, Poetik?Just.Us.  The albums first official single is “Pretty 4 A Dark Girl” and features vocals from R&B singer Kency.  The video is available on YouTube.

Rage Almighty has come a long way from his beginning in Boston, Mass.  Now a poet, writer, rapper and community activist, Rage is a standout personality is the underground music scene in Dallas, TX.  He’s gone from reciting poetry in talent shows at school to ripping rhymes in hip-hop shows.  Rage has put his stamp on underground hip-hop music, and is focused on becoming the next focal-point in the Big D music picture.  Rage has a lane to himself, and is desperately trying to avoid the traffic on the road to hip-hop prominence.
