The Collection

"The clothes don’t make the man; the man makes the clothes…who ever wrote this quote must [have] never worn Collection Ro!”

This past April at The University of North Texas in Denton, there was a concert/fashion show, “Will Rap for Food”.  Featured in the show was a familiar name here at The Urban Advocate, the good people at Unkommon Kolor.  There was another line featured that I could’ve sworn I had seen before.  The designs I remember seeing were Greek influenced; you know the ones you could normally associate with college fraternities.  The line responsible for these fresh looks and designs, The Ro Collection/The Collection .Ro.  However you want to say it, you might to add this name and brand to your fashion repertoire!

Established in October of 2005, The Ro Collection has been making some very impressive moves that have made them a force to watch out for in fashion.  The Collection was founded by Dallas-bred Roland and Romond Truitt, two men with a desire to express their selves through fashion.  The two young men started out designing custom handmade designs for their peers in their school.  From there they decided to expand their reach throughout the state of Texas.  Fashion is not just a way of making money for The Collection though.  “I feel fashion is an art and is defined as and expression of how one feels about themselves and the world,” says Roland Truitt.   With that in mind, the partners set out build a line with a very distinct look and style.  As oppose to following trends set by other fashion lines, The Collections wants to be the ones who set the mode.  “Originality inspires the collection, and to be different is the glove to the human eye,” Roland declares.  “We wanted to have a design that catches the eye; our goal is to set trends.”  They have created styles for every occasion imaginable from casual and formal wear to street and lounge wear.  The Collection customizes their line to make their clothing tailor fit for the consumer.  It is that precision that has helped The Collection develop a strong following from Dallas to Atlanta.

Since its launch in late 2005, The Ro Collection has been able to develop a serious buzz in southern states like Texas, Georgia, Tennessee and Mississippi.  The Collection has been featured in dozens of fashion shows since their debut.  Like I said before, “Will Rap for Food” wasn’t the first time I had seen designs from The Collection.  With over 2000 designs in store, The Collection can actually be seen around in Dallas and Houston.  Not to mention, the Truitt men have been able to develop relationships with some individuals in the music industry.  Lupe Fiasco, Yo Gotti and Lil’ Webbie have all been affiliates and supporters of The Collection.  But The Collection doesn’t want to limit themselves to the southern portion of the United States.  “If it’s in God’s will, The Ro Collection will be nationwide,” states Truitt.  “We will be mentioned with the biggest clothing lines and I see success leaving results as far as being a favorite choice of style of dress.”  If you ask me, The Collection is well on their way!

The desire to be different and set trends is things that set clothing lines apart from the pack.  All too often, lines come out trying to be like other lines they’ve seen on the racks.  But, The Ro Collection doesn’t want to just conform to the other lines on the market.  The young motivated company has the determination to take their line to the next level.  The Ro Collection is focused right now.  “They use to say the skies the limit until [they] seen a man walk on the moon,” says Truitt.  “The collection isn’t just a movement; it’s the American Desire.”
