The Mayor

In the spring of 2006, while I was attending college, one of my classmates passed me a mixtape.  I wasn’t familiar with the artists on the CD, so a part of me wanted to just brush it off, and just listen to it when I got a chance to.  Though The Urban Advocate hadn’t even been conceived yet, I was growing tired of mainstream music.  At the time, I was looking for something new to listen to.  The next day, in a haste to get to class on time, I accidentally left my CD case book at home; just so happens that I left this mixtape in my car.  I decided to check the disc out.  The mixtape in question was Major Moves presents The Arsenal, Change Gon Come.  One of the voices, which had a familiar ring to it, delivered the first sixteen bars on the disc; I was blown away.  That voice was the voice of my classmate, The Mayor of Oak Cliff, Big Suave.  So when The Urban Advocate was born, I was on a mission to get this impressively sharp Big D lyricist featured on the site.  So without further delay, this is the story of Big Suave.

This story started in 1998 when Suave began building a reputation by rhyming alongside underground groups in Dallas.  His witty wordplay and hard hitting punch-lines gained Suave an incredible amount of attention as a rapper and a songwriter.  He began crafting songs for himself as well as co-writing songs for labels and their artists.  In 2003, Suave released his first mixtape entitled, Underground Terrorist.  The mixtape gained Suave some notoriety around the underground scene in the area.  Around 2003, Suave also co-founded City Counsel, in which he acquired the name The Mayor of Oak Cliff, the infamous neighborhood in the southern area of Dallas, TX.  The release of his next two mixtapes, Repeat Offender and Grand Theft Audio, officially marked the beginning of what Suave deems “The Campaign Trail”.  While on “The Campaign Trail”, he was able to gain the attention of industry veterans such as Lil' Flip, E-40, and Michael “5000” Watts.  The rest as they say is history.

Throughout the next few years, Big Suave was able to construct an unbelievable resume, appearing on an astounding five dozen mixtapes including his own Spare Change, Campaign Trail Vol. 1 and School for Skoundrels (Album Sampler).  With some notable influences such as Ludacris, Twista, and Scarface to name a few, Suave has been able to gain a tremendous amount of respect from DJs and artists alike.  DJ Chuck T “The Carolina King”, hailed Big Suave as “The Future of the New South”.  The charming MC has been able to maintain his focus and drive while continuing to build on his following.  Suave also serves as one-half of the Dirty Rotten Skoundrels with his partner in rhyme, Young Don “The Pride of the Projects”.  The two are currently working on releasing their street album, Skoundrel Muzik.  Suave is also getting prepared for the release of his solo debut, The Next Big Thing.  Big Suave and his conglomerate are soldering forward to bring prominence to Dallas hip-hop.

Since he first started making waves in 1998, Big Suave has built-up an amazing underground following.  He has been featured on mixtapes both domestic and international.  Suave has created a movement in underground hip-hop as a rapper, songwriter, and member of Dirty Rotten Skoundrels.  The Mayor is on a mission; with a great amount of support on his campaign trail, Big Suave refuses to lose his seat to lame rappers flooding the music game right now.  I can say one thing for sure, he definitely has my vote.
