In a city that's known for it's championship professional sports teams and growing economy, it's surprising that Dallas has the highest child poverty rate in the country among cities with more than 1 million people. Approximately, 3,000 kids our city are currently effected by homelessness. So, this autumn The Urban Advocate is launching a new initiative to help provide basic essential items to children effected by homelessness in the Dallas area.
The “Love The Kids” Donation Drive will take place on September 29th from 1 pm to 4 pm at Joy Tabernacle AME in Dallas. The drive will be collecting donations throughout the month of September leading up to the day of the event. Items collected for “Love The Kids” Donation Drive will benefit a couple of charities that work directly with homeless children in Dallas.

Through The Urban Advocate, Johnson has assisted with organizing and promoting book drives, clothing drives, shoe drives and even peanut butter drives. In 2011, he became a part of the MBK Dallas: Feed the Homeless Drive, the annual event that feeds homeless and low-income citizens on Thanksgiving Day in the South Dallas area.
